BRIEF BACKGROUND HISTORY
The Irish Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IrishWWF) is a non-profit organization and is the National Governing Body in Ireland for all forms of Waterskiing, Wakeboarding, Disabled Skiing and Barefooting. It’s members are affiliated Clubs. It is also affiliated to the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the international Federation for all Towed Water Sports. The IWWF is a member of ARISF, WADA, GAISF and IWGA.
The IrishWWF has a distinguished history dating back to the 1950’s in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. In the early days, each territory had a stand-alone Association. Discussions which began in the mid 1980’s on combining both Associations resulted in the formation of the Irish Waterski Federation. With the growth of Wakeboarding, in 2009, the title was changed to the Irish Waterski & Wakeboard Federation – in line with many other National Federation.
Following extensive national research in 2007, canvassing the views of all active IrishWWF Clubs, agreeing the priorities, the vision, the mission statement and main goals, the five pillars on which the sport is now currently based were agreed and are set out below. These are the main elements in our Strategic Plan as outlined onsite in DOCUMENTS.
1. Participation
2. Communication
3. Finance
4. Coaching
5. Administration
The overall priority of these five pillars is to significantly increase the level of participation in the years ahead. The particular emphasis is on greater participation by children and females, and highlighting the health benefits and fun gained from participation through improved marketing programmes, increasing funding in order to upgrade facilities at affiliated Club level, and bringing coaching skills into line with Irish Sports Council and NCTC standards. The resulting improvement in the overall performances of our athletes will also help them to achieve greater success at both national and international level.
